Hey gang! Welcome to Day Three of the Little Prince Blog Hop - thanks so much for stopping by!
If you missed the first two days you will want to go back and take a peek - EVERY SINGLE STOP on this three-day hop is giving away a prize! Check out Day One here and Day Two here - you have until midnight April 5th to enter. Good luck!
I love to create my own party decorations - but it can be hard (and expensive) to find themed decorations. Why not make your own? Today I've got a quick tutorial for you on how to create your own custom cake plate.
SUPPLIES
Xyron Creatopia with Permanent Adhesive
One sheet 12x12 patterned paper
One cardboard cake circle (you can use any size up to 12" - I used a 10" circle)
Coordinating buttons
Xyron High Tack Adhesive Dots (these won't be available until June - sneak peek for you!!!)
Craft knife and self-healing mat
Sandpaper
Set your patterned paper face down on your work surface, then run your cake circle upside down through the Creatopia.
Peel off top film, then peel the cake circle from the backing and place adhesive side down on your paper (remember - your paper is face down on your work area). Use a craft knife to cut all the way around the cake circle, then sand edges to smooth.
Use your Adhesive Dots to apply buttons around the outside edge of the cake plate. Tip: I only put buttons about halfway around before I put the cake on the plate - just in case! :)
Place your cake in the center of the plate, add the remaining buttons - and you have your own custom cake plate in just a few minutes!
Are you wishing you had a piece of this cake? Can you just taste the sweet fluffy frosting? Well...I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I was dreading this photo shoot because I KNEW if we brought a cake in to the house we would eat it and I am trying VERY hard to eat healthier. I shouldn't have worried. If you look very carefully at the above photo you may notice that the frosting at the top of the cake doesn't go all the way around. This is why.
Our mastidane puppy - Bizzy - is NOTORIOUS for eating things off the table when we aren't looking. We tried to shame her by posting this photo on Facebook after my husband's last birthday - but it apparently didn't phase her because I had everything all set up for this photo shoot, turned my back for less than 30 seconds and...
Clearly she loves cake even more than I do. Gotta love her!
As a thank you for coming by I'm giving away a great prize pack of Xyron goodies - including a roll of the Xyron High Tack Adhesive Dots! You'll be the first to try them! I'm also including an Adhesive Eraser, Tape Runner, Glue Stick for Corners and Magnet Tape. A whole box of craftiness! To enter simply leave a comment here on the blog. You have until April 5th to enter - I'll announce the winner on my Facebook Page on April 6th. Someone is going to be very happy!
Please stop by and visit the other Day Three bloggers (complete list is below) - next stop is the SUPER talented Irit Shalom. You are going to love her altered frame!
Happy Hopping everybody!

I love the cake plate idea. I have a nice collection of buttons so I'm gonna have to give it a try.
ReplyDeletePoor Bizzy! Who can resist cake and cheeseball?
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute, easy way to dress up the cake plate! Thanks for sharing! PS - how old is your "puppy?" She is HUGE!!
ReplyDeleteHa! Thanks Cristine! She was 10 months in that photo...she is 15 months now. She is a monster! :)

ReplyDeleteLove your dog, looks just like a kid in trouble. Too funny, sorry though. Great project.
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! Guess she thinks if it's within tongue reach it's fair game! Great ideas! Thanks for sharing them and the laugh!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute cake...I dont blame the dog for licking your cakes when you turn your head :) Thanks for a chance to win!
ReplyDeleteAWW... how could you be upset with that adorable face :) Cute idea for the cake plate.
ReplyDeleteCute cake plate!! Bizzy is so adorable!! You can't stay mad very long with such an adorable face like that!! My question is...Did you eat any of the cake after Bizzy spiced it up with her saliva? You don't have to tell! Thanks for sharing your cute plate idea and your awesome dog!
ReplyDeletehahahahahaha Jan!! We weren't even tempted. Bizzy may be the best dieting tool ever! :)
DeleteCustomized cake plates?? WOWWWW!!! so so cute. That would definitely put a personal touch to any birthday party.
ReplyDeleteAwww, your doggy is way too cute. Look at those puppy eyes!
Cute idea! You should post your dog's photo on www.dogshaming.com...he will fit right in, lol!
ReplyDeleteLOL so glad I'm not the only one with a dog that does things like that in literally 30 seconds :) Love your cake plate idea! Always inspired by you and thrilled to be on this blog hop with you :)
ReplyDeleteCute idea. How can you be made at Bizzy with that cute face.
ReplyDeleteYour plate is so cute!! I had a cat who licked the icing off a cake I had made for one of my kids-left no icing at all and didn't get sick!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty cake! And cake plate too, good idea. funny about the frosting! Thanks for a chance to win too.
ReplyDeleteterriavidreader at yahoo dot com
So stinking cute!! Both the cake plate and the photo of Bizzy(although you didn't think so at the time). Love the inspirational ideas with the paper and the buttons! Love Xyron products!!!
ReplyDeleteSo cute. Love it. Makes birthdays more fun. Beautiful dog, even if he has an affinity for cakes.
ReplyDeleteI guess that is a problem with dogs who are tall enough to reach counters and tables. We had a lab who was good for doing that. Bear is a yorkie so she can't reach - but she can jump up on a chair and then onto the table. I found that out the hard way. Now I make sure the chairs are pushed up to the table.
ReplyDeleteI'm just finding out how much the Creatopia can do. I guess I'm going to have to put that on my list of "must haves".
That Bizzy!!! It's hard not to love that face! Can't wait to try the adhesive dots!
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Oh Beth... I don't think your pup cares much about FB but cake... different story!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeletesuper cute idea for the cake plate but even cuter story about your dog. :) Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a cute idea. I could dress-up plain dessert plates for my mini cakes. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHave to love the puppy :) Thanks for the cute idea. Quick and easy... Just the way I like them. Thanks Lana
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea! And I hear ya on the dogs....we have a beagle. He will do ANYTHING for food!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha, poor Bizzy!
ReplyDeleteGreat project!
Love the cake plate! Love the doggie! I have to watch my kitties like a hawk---or they will do the same thing! Thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteBizzy was only helping you to not eat that cake!!!! MWAH!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problems wiht my dog! But how can you get upset with her. She's so cute! Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGotta love that puppy! Almost as much as I love anything Xyron!
ReplyDeleteWhat a Awesome cake table I love the info thanks for the chance to win and sharing. gota love the puppy and thats just like a kid. cool

Cute idea.......but have to admit that Bizzy is the hero here......that's what drew my attention.....I used to have a boxer who rarely stole food off the table......but when he did, it was hilarious.....like the time he took a full chicken off my kitchen counter and it took me DAYS to find where he hid it.

ReplyDeleteOh My I miss my xyron so BAD!. I haven't seen my 9" in over 2 years *sigh* That is a super great Idea!
ReplyDeleteYou're soooo clever! I L.O.V.E. your cake plate idea. I have never thought of decorating a cardboard cake circle that way! Thanks for all the inspiration! Awww, Bizzy is so pretty and really looks like she's sorry for messing up the cake!
ReplyDeleteOh Beth! Gotta love our fur babies, and the crazy thing they do! She is too cute with her sign of shame...Happy someone enjoyed the cake and cheese!
ReplyDeleteI hope I am in the right place to enter the Xyron contest and agree with everyone else that Bizzy is adorable
ReplyDeleteHi Beth! That's an awesome idea. Your puppy is adorable. I like the look they give us or don't when they get in trouble. :) The shame sign made me laugh out loud. :D

Wish I had this idea when my kids were little. Made all their cakes from scratch using my own ideas. The matching plates would have been over-the-top for their time. I love the puppy story! It's a much funnier story than when kids do it. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!! Thanks for sharing. I love your project ideas.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I am a party cake maker and this is perfect for kids cakes! Poor Bizzy! Pour you when you discovered the missing frosting. I can just imagine what was going through your mind!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! For my daughters birthday coming up we are doing a cupcake cake, but it's given me some great ways to doll up her cake!
ReplyDeleteYour pup reminds me of a friends child... if there is a cake in the room he knows immediately and is on it as fast as he can!
O M G!! This is just too cute!! Im so amazed!!! Love the awesome inspiration! Thanks! "Happy Spring"
ReplyDeletehahahahaha..... Beth, I was laughing so hard. That is just so funny. I know in the moment it may not have been but the way you wrote it and described it. My mind went straight for a full vision. Bizzy is so adorable and I can see that face expression when she was caught. LOL...I love your idea of your own plate cake. Those buttons are too cute.
ReplyDeleteAWK!!! I love your cake plate project but the thing I will always remember from your post is your terribly contrite cake burglar! SO funny and so cute...and even funnier with her mug shot sign and pose! And then the cheese ball incident (snicker...)
ReplyDeleteOh that is so funny
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have to forward it on to my daughter who just got a puppy! Things to look forward to....
ReplyDeleteLove your fun cake plate with the buttons! And I'd LOVE to try those Adhesive Dots.... thanks for a chance!
Thank you for that great cake plate project, this is something I plan to make for my daughter's 3rd birthday party this summer! And thank you too for that hilarious story about your frosting eating dog! She looks So sad with that sign on her neck...but oh did it make me laugh!
ReplyDeleteLove the cake plate idea. Your dog's story was so funny.
ReplyDeleteThe story of the naughty puppy made me chuckle. Unfortunately pets don't get embarrassed like teenagers do. You may have to find a different punishment for her. Cute cake plate idea BTW!
ReplyDeleteI think Bizzy is every bit as cute as your really cute cake plate!
ReplyDeleteLove Bizzy! Cute cake plate!
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea for a custom cake plate. Thanks for sharing this adorable photo and Bizzy story with us. Give her a hug for me!

ReplyDeleteLynn Burton - very cute idea - however I don't think "Bizzy" really cared if it was bright and colorful.
ReplyDeleteLove this! And the dog is super funny!
ReplyDeleteVery cute ideas, and love the dog. Our big Doberman, Bricky, ate the meringue off a lemon pie, and then helped himself to over a dozen butter tarts off a platter on the table! Not a crumb out of place not a tongue mark on the pie! Master thief he was.
ReplyDeleteSweet craft ideas, and dog antics- a winning combination!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the Bizzy story :) I teach cake decorating classes and I can SO relate :) I have a Teddy Bear and a Sugar Bear and I can't trust them with cake stuff. Sugar Bear LOVES buttercream :) (But it doesn't love her!) I shared this page to my cake decorating page so my students can see how you made the personalized cake board. I know they'll love your idea! Thanks for sharing :) Believe it or not, I have been able to enjoy a lot of cross over with my love of cake decorating and my love of paper crafting :) Cheers :) Karen

ReplyDeletehahaha...fur babies! gotta love 'em! one year when i was a kid ours ran off with the thanksgiving turkey! love the cake and the instant decorated plate project. way cool!
ReplyDeleteNaughty doggie! I've had big dogs before, but thankfully, they thought they were little and never jumped up or climbed on anything (or I would have probably lost lots of nummy food)! Cute project!
ReplyDeleteLove your cake (before it was attacked) and your adorable cake plate. Your story is just the funniest ever, never having had a BIG do I can't imagine the trouble it can get in to!
ReplyDeletethe cake plate is darling! and, too bad about the cute pup! they are fun but can get in trouble easily.... thanks for a chance to win!

I love the button idea. Could not stop laughing at the picture of your dog. My littlest one loves to find a chair left pulled out to be able to jump on the table. Can't help but love our furbabies, they bring us so much joy. Roseann H.
